The Halloween decorations are down and some fall themed things should be going up in the next couple of days. I'm having the students color fall leaves so I can decorate the front of the circulation desk. Also, in my never-ending efforts to keep circulation up, and books flowing through students' hands, I attempted something new the last couple of weeks. I call it Musical Book Chairs. It is just a way to get books off the shelf for students to preview that they might not normally give a chance. It was a lot of fun since it corresponded with Halloween, so I got to play Thriller during library time! Students are still circulating through the Collaboratory with Mrs. Tipps as she continues to show them how to play with our tiny robot friends, the Ozobots. And, right now we have two new maker activities rotating through the Creation Station: a puzzle table and (my favorite-former English teacher here!) a Blackout Poetry station.
Happy Fall Y'all! Mrs. Larson

There has been so much happening, and so much to catch up on in the library and collaboratory. First, the creation station is in full gear. Students are shakin' and makin' everyday. Next, a beloved Austin mural got a nerdy spin in our library. If you haven't seen it, come in and take a picture in front of the "i love books so much" mural! Then, Mrs. Tipps and I collaborated to set up stations for students to have an opportunity to play with our Ozobots (these are teeny little robots that the students code with colors). The kids had so much fun they barely noticed when the power went out in the building! I have also started having students recommend books to their peers, so If you see a book with a "Read Me" note in it it has been kid tested and approved!
Happy Fall Y'all! Katy Larson Eleven is a magical age. It's the year when students receive invitations to Hogwarts Academy! Our wise Librarian, Mrs. Larson, is here to help our little witches and wizards begin their journey at Hogwarts. During the month of their eleventh birthday, students will try on our mystical hat and be sorted into school houses. Summer birthday? Fear not! Students who have a summer birthday will be sorted in May. Which house will it be? The Sorting Hat knows where you belong.
If you missed out on the debut of our September Song Of The Month, you will want to catch it before the month is over. Students are singing This Is Me from The Greatest Showman. Ms. Jones and Ms. King have done an amazing job choosing a song that is meaningful and relevant. The lyrics encourage kids to be proud of who they are, a message that resonates with all of us. I stopped into music this week to catch a behind the scenes peek. What a wonderful class! We are lucky to have this power team growing our students. This Is Me (Lyrics)THIS IS ME
from The Greatest Showmen I am not a stranger to the dark Hide away, they say 'Cause we don't want your broken parts I've learned to be ashamed of all my scars Run away, they say No one'll love you as you are But, I won't let them break me down to dust I know that there's a place for us For we are glorious When the sharpest words wanna cut me down I'm gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out I am brave, I am bruised I am who I'm meant to be, this is me Look out 'cause here I come And I'm marching on to the beat I drum I'm not scared to be seen I make no apologies, this is me Oh-oh-oh-oh Oh-oh-oh-oh Oh-oh-oh-oh Oh-oh-oh-oh Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh, oh This is me! |
